On May 27th, in an interview for Jornal do Maranhão, a news program of the Rede Globo affiliate in the state, Tiago Moura, CEO of NewFields Brasil, was asked by reporter Tayse Fequer about the possibility of depolluting a lagoon in the city of São Luiz do Maranhão.
“...once you stop discharging sewage and effluents, the environmental recovery capacity is very powerful. So the first step is to stop this discharge of waste and effluents and think about strategies that will also be harmonious to accelerate this recovery process.”
Moura also provides examples, citing bioremediation and plant-based agents.

This, incidentally, was the topic of the lecture presented by him and Luciano Silvino, NewFields Brasil's Project and Innovation Manager, at the Brazilian Congress of Environmental Law, which took place on May 28th and 29th, at the OAB-MA auditorium, in a hybrid format. With the theme "New Perspectives on Environmental Law in Brazil," the congress was organized by OKAH Ateliê de Conteúdos in collaboration with OAB-MA, the Superior School of Advocacy (ESA-MA), the Maranhão Lawyers' Assistance Fund (CAAMA), and Beyond Institute, with sponsorship from major companies such as Vale, Porto do Itaqui, and NewFields Brasil.
According to OAB-MA, topics covered included environmental licensing and climate change; the role of legal advocacy in climate change issues; national environmental policy instruments in the context of climate change; environmental policies as opportunities for sustainable development; civil liability rules in the Environmental Crimes Law; reflections on the limits of civil liability for environmental damages; and the importance of consensual methods for resolving environmental conflicts.

On that occasion, Tiago Moura and Luciano Silvino presented a case of conflict between the public prosecutor's office and a private port, detailing how a robust data analysis underpinned the technical opinion activities, bringing favorable results through expert assessment and minimization of conflict with the community.
